A trench box or shield is a square structure that protects workers when entering a trench. They are also commonly referred to as a sewer box or shoring box and composed of heavy duty aluminum and steel. These shields reduce the chances of a collapse or cave-in, thus reducing the risk of injury. Most trench boxes follow OSHA requirements to ensure maximum safety.
