Clear AllPipe Welding Alignment Clamp
Pipe Welding Clamps are used to align pipes, fittings and other round work pieces for welding. These clamps have a quick release feature for fast and easy installation and use. Toolfetch carries many different styles of clamps for internal pipe clamp welding as well as internal pipe fit up clamps for the oil and gas industries.
Steps On How To Use A Pipe Welding Clamp
Cleaning
Clean the pipe clamp to aid inspection and improve control. To clean the work piece, use a wire brush to remove dirt and grime from contact points. Before use always inspect for wear and damage that could affect safe use, if issues are found do not use until corrected. Contamination from rust or debris could cause corrosion and premature pipe failure. To reduce possible contamination of stainless steel pipe, use equipment dedicated to only working with the similar metals. Another option is to use a stainless steel wire brush to thoroughly clean the equipment when switching between metals.
Inspection/Maintenance
Lubricate all points that move on the clamp with a light weight general purpose lubricating oil. Wipe off any excess oil.
How To Use A Pipe Welding Clamp
Step 2: Loosen all wing nuts on clamp. The tips of the bolts should not be in contact with the pipe when initially installed.
Step 3: To start, open the clamp and use one hand to hold the grip and press the feed screw release. While holding use the free hand to pull the handle and open the jaws.
Step 4: Place the jaws around the object to be welded with the wing nuts oriented towards the end. Push the handle to close the jaws. The three contact points should sit squarely on the pipes surface. Tighten the handle on the clamp to secure the pipe.
Step 5: Secure all of the wing nuts to the object until the tips lightly contact the pipe surface.
Step 6: Loosen the handle (usually 1 turn) and slide the pipe clamp so the bolts extend approximately 2" from the end of the pipe. Tighten the handle and secure the clamp to the object.
Step 7: Loosen one wing bolt (usually the upper wing bolt) 2-3 turns. Align the second pipe with the first and place between the bolt tips, setting the appropriate gap between the pipes. Tighten the loosened bolt.
Step 7B: If needed, the bolts can be used to adjust alignment. If the second pipe is a different size from the first, start adjusting by turning each bolt an equal number of turns.
Step 8: To remove the pipe clamp, loosen the handle 2 turns and open the clamp.
