Fork Lift Extension
Forklift extensions provides an extended reach over what standard forks can offer. Extensions come in loop and pin styles with lengths from 36" - 120" and weight capacities up to 5000 lbs.
Fork extensions are for facilities that need to maximize their loading space by maximizing the forklift's lift and reach capacity. An forklift for extensions are often used in warehouses, factories, retail stores, distribution centers and other places of business where palletized materials such as boxes, crates and bags must be handled with a fork truck. They are made from heavy duty welded steel construction.
There are different types of forks to fit different types applications. The simplest type is a fixed-length extension assembly, these come in either a loop style or a pin style. Forks are available from 36" up to 120" depending on the type of application needing to be solved.
Loop Style
A loop style extension has a fixed ring at the back to the attach the fork truck forks and is installed by sliding it up at a 45 degree angle and then laying it down over the existing fork.
Pin Style
Has a removable pin in the back to secure it to the forks, this must be removed before sliding it over the existing forks and when installed the pin is slid back in to secure it.
Safety Rules and OSHA Regulations
1. The length of the extension should not exceed than 1.5 X the existing fork length.
2. Fork extenders have a load capacity that should never be exceeded
3. Forks come in various widths to accommodate different machines, make sure the extension fits snuggly over the forks.
4. Always have your extenders professionally inspected for safety and that they have the proper support needed to lift and not slide off.
Measuring
Before purchasing, the user should measure the width and thickness of the fork needing to be extended. Then check the dimensions of the new fork, for safety it should not exceed 66% of the forks itself.
These tools allow you to use your fork lift more efficiently to lift long or large objects. They are best for occasional loads that need a long fork or when working with light bulky cargo. They also eliminate costly down time as they can be used in conjunction with any size pallet or crate. They save space because double-deep pallet racks fit on either side of an aisle instead of just one deep rack at each end which can increase warehouse capacity up to 30%.
